Charlie Raposo currently has the greatest potential of GB’s athletes for World Cup, World Championship, and Olympic honours in Giant Slalom. At the age of 25, Charlie has already surpassed all previous British racers in Giant Slalom. For the last seven years he has ranked amongst the top Giant Slalom skiers in the world in his age group.

Achievements to date include first ever European Cup Giant Slalom podium for a Brit; North American Cup and Far East Cup wins; 36th place World Cup finish (best British GS result ever); and a best ever British Result of sixth at World Junior Championships back in 2017. Ranked comfortably in the World Top 60, Charlie now starts an exciting push to break into the elite top 30 levels of the World Cup, with the extensive TV coverage that ensues.

Charlie started skiing in Verbier, Switzerland. From an early age his ambition was to be a professional skier. Initially talent spotted by a Swiss coach, by 11 he was racing, and at 14 he took the big step of moving to Vermont, USA to study and ski at a specific elite ski academy, Green Mountain Valley School. This was the major steppingstone in Charlie’s rise to becoming one of the best junior racers in the World for his age. Since graduating from GMVS, Charlie has focused on developing his skills to elite World Cup standards.

Charlie is focused on 2020. Having made a big statement in 2019 with a European Cup podium with several other strong European Cup and World Cup performances, his priorities are to achieve a place in the elite top 30 group in World Cup Giant Slalom, and the top three in the European Cup Giant Slalom standings for 2020. This is the league of racing in which Charlie has staked his claim. The next three years will include three full World Cup and European Cup tours, one World Championships, and Charlie’s first Olympics in Beijing 2022.

These three years are crucial for Charlie. This is the time for him to climb to the top. He is close to competing with some of the great names of the sport, but achieving it will require persistence, resilience, unfaltering determination and hard work.
